DAY 14

    01.24.21 | by Gary Closter

Bill was a husband with a strong sense of duty. He cleaned house, washed cars and did much of the cooking. Taking notice, his new wife felt moved until she asked why. Bill simply stated, “I’m devoted to the institution of marriage and home.” Wrong answer Bill!

The letter to Ephesus in the Book of Revelation addresses the issue of love as a motivator for our works.  “I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary. 4  But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.” Rev 2:3-4

After encouraging words the church was given strong correction,  ";you have abandoned the love you had at first.” Is it possible that Jesus is more concerned about what we do with Him than for Him? Revelation 2:5 gives an outline for rekindling our love. “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first”

Remember:   the thankfulness you had as a new believer. (Ro 5:8)

Repent:           then be filled with the Holy Spirit. (Eph 5:18)

Repeat:          do the works you did at first. (Jn 13:34-35)

What personal prayers are rising up in you? Please join in prayer along these lines: Father, thank you for loving me when I was far away… Lord, I have not put you first; rekindle my love, fill me with your Spirit… Lord, I give you my heart and my hands…

Our prayers take on new life when our love for Jesus is rekindled.
