DAY 11

    Galatians 5:1

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery.”

The word “freedom” is one of those feelgood words that I think we all long to have in our lives.  I’m sure when I was a toddler I wanted the freedom to do whatever I wanted to do. Whether it was putting things in my mouth or jumping on the furniture. I remember as a teenager I wanted the freedom to come and go as I pleased. Riding my dirt bike in the open woods or driving my parents car to wherever I wanted to go.  We all seem to have this God given built in desire to be free!

This passage of scripture brings things into perspective for me. Christ died on a cross by a brutal death so that I could be forgiven of my sins, yesterday, today and tomorrow.  He and he alone have set my soul free if I choose to receive it.  I have come to the conclusion that the times I have experienced the heavy burden of my sin, are the times I absolutely hate and feel separated from God. The times I have experienced total freedom in Christ are the times I absolutely love and feel the closest to him.  The contrast of these two experiences are a wake-up call to me. Proverbs 26:11 says that as a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.  What a fool I am if I return to the very sin that sabotage’s my own interest. Sin burdens my heart, makes my soul downcast and separates me from God.  This verse is simple to me, Sin equals slavery, but Christ equals freedom.  I know I will never be sinless, but I can strive to sin less.

Today, I encourage you to think about what this verse of truth means to you.  Rejoice in the fact that no matter where you are today, God will never leave you or forsake you.  He is the God of Agape love, which means unconditional love.  I pray that we together during this time of fasting and prayer we would experience his freedom!
