DAY 3

    01.13.21 | by Caleb Eaton

    Acts 13:1-3

“Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.”

Recently, my wife and I were driving on route 3 north. It started to rain. The rain turned into torrential downpours. It was such a heavy rain that my windshield wipers couldn’t keep up with the volume of the rain fall leaving me with close to no visibility while trying to drive. Has this ever happened to you? I immediately slowed down to about 20-30 miles per hour until the rain went away. At that moment, I needed clarity. I needed to see where I was going.

Fasting is a spiritual practice that brings us clarity. Paul (who at the time the scripture records this story was Saul) and Barnabus were with prophets and teachers in the church and together they were worshipping God, fasting and praying. As they were leaning into the presence of God, God gave them divine direction. He told them, ‘Send Barnabas and Saul for the work I have called them to do.” The Holy Spirit brought clarity to this gathered people as they fasted and prayed.

Do you need clarity in your life? Is there something that has been on your heart and mind but you're not quite sure if it is the Lord? Have you been longing to start a new thing? During this time of prayer and fasting, God often brings clarity to us as we eliminate unnecessary distractions from our lives.
